The extreme weather events in parts of the North Island have affected many businesses

Tax if you’ve been affected by the extreme weather
If you’ve been affected by the extreme weather, you don’t need to contact IR right now.
If you let them know when you reasonably can, there are ways they can help, including things like removing penalties and interest, getting you set up to pay in instalments, and helping if you are in financial hardship.
Contacting IR
IR is prioritising contacts from those affected by the floods and cyclone. If you need to talk to them:
- Send IR a message in myIR using the word ‘flood’ in the subject line: myIR login
- Call its dedicated phoneline: 0800 473 566
- Go to one of their front of house offices: IR customer sites
Finance and Banking
Banks are offering help for affected businesses. You may be able to get:
- a temporary business overdraft
- deferred payment for business credit cards
- relief options for business loans.
Talk to your bank to find out what assistance they can offer.
Looking after your Employees
During and after a disaster or emergency, employers and employees need to consider issues such as health and safety, emotional wellbeing and payment options.
Take care of yourself and your Employees during this time.
If its not safe for them to work, don’t require them to do so.
Keep communicating with them, you may need to consider changes to your leave policy
