You’ve probably heard about the new AI (artificial intelligence) technology that has huge implications for how we all work.

There are many programmes available but foremost of these is ChatGPT.

This programme launched in December 2022, breaking internet records as its popularity grew to millions in just days.

As its name suggests, it’s basically a way to chat, more particularly to get information on any topic.

How does it work?

Rather than a Google search, ChatGPT looks for the “best” answer. It looks at all the information on the internet to do that, using AI to create just the one answer.

It can be a huge helper in day-to-day life. Ask it for a weekly recipe plan based on the keto diet, how to repair a bike puncture, or what natural remedy might ease the pain of a bee sting.

If you need to write a report or a description for a product or simply need inspiration, just ask ChatGPT and it will supply great results for you.

How do I access Chat GPT?

To access ChatGPT, click on the link at the bottom of this post, then click on ‘try ChatGPT’ and register, creating an email address and a password. Its free (at the moment ) to use.

It will  send you an email to verify your email address, which you open and click on “verify email address”

It will then ask you a few questions to verify that you are a human being, (which is kind of hilarious having artificial intelligence asking if you are a human being)  once you have answered them,  you are ready to go.

Enter a question or a request, either by spoken word or by typing text, press ‘send’ and the reply will come straight back to you.

You can save the reply, copy and paste the reply or send it to yourself by email to be used in whatever work you are doing.

What’s scary about this?

The somewhat scary part of this technology is when it’s used to overtake human creativity.

Right now, a rapidly growing number of university assignments are being written using ChatGPT.

For example, you can type in: “Give me a 500 word article on the molecular response to a virus.”

Architects might also ask for a building design based on Frank Lloyd Wright.

However, ChatGPT itself advises that it might “occasionally generate incorrect information”, and has “limited knowledge of world and events after 2021”.  So it pays to check that the reply is correct before using it in your production.

Generating images from textual descriptions

With AI it is possible to generate images from textual descriptions.

We tried: “Give me a picture of Kâpiti Island in the style of van Gogh.” You can see the result in the image in this article.

‘OpenAI’ is one such programme it has developed ‘DALL-E 2’, which is similar to ChatGPT, but it can generate images from textual descriptions.

DALL-E 2 can be used for many applications, such as product design, video game development and digital art. There is a charge to use it.

AI  is the way of the future, why not give it a go and explore the ways that AI can make possible improvements to your business.
